Gov. Brown signs AB 199 into law

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has signed AB 199 last October 8, 2011 – School curriculum: Social Sciences: Filipinos in World War II. by Assemblymember Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco).

AB 199 expresses the encouragement of the Legislature that instruction in social sciences includes the role of Filipinos in World War II. Specifically, it encourages the instruction to include a component drawn from personal testimony, especially in the form of oral or video histories of Filipinos who were involved in World War II and those men and women who contributed to the war effort on the home front.

AB 199 helps ensure that our children and future generations learn of the contributions and sacrifice of these brave Filipino soldiers before we lose them in history.

The Filipino community celebrated the victory with a luncheon  at the Veterans War Memorial & Performing Arts Center on A-DAY, October 20, 2011.

AB 199 Historical Artifacts, military records and personal writings of Filipino soldiers during WWII were presented  to the public by members of the Curriculum Development Committee on A-DAY.
